How to prevent proxy attendance in college

Signing the register for an absent friend
There is no register to sign. Every check-in is a student account tapping one seat, at one time, in one session — not a name written by someone else.
A friend taps "present" for you in the app
One seat, one student, one session is enforced at the database level. A second check-in on the same seat — or the same student in two places — is rejected outright.
Screenshotting the class QR code and sharing it
There is no code to forward. Check-in is a tap on the live classroom seat map, tied to the physical layout of that specific room.
Scanning in at the door, then walking out
Attendance is taken from inside the room, on the seat map the professor is watching in real time — not at a turnstile before the lecture starts.

Can students still mark proxy attendance with AttendMetric?
The common tactics — signing for a friend, forwarding a code, scanning at the door then leaving — don’t work here, because check-in is a unique seat tap inside the room that the professor watches live. No system can claim to be impossible to game, but the low-effort routes that make proxy attendance widespread are closed off.
Is this better than biometric attendance for large classes?
Biometric scanners create a queue at one door and only prove someone was at that door, not that they stayed for the lecture. AttendMetric takes attendance from every seat, during the class, on a map the professor is already looking at — no hardware line, no “scan and leave”.
What if a student sits in the wrong seat?
They still check in — the seat map just reflects where they actually are. Because one seat can only be claimed once per session, two students still can’t both check in from the same spot, and the professor sees the live layout either way.
