What’s wrong with QR-code attendance?
The QR encodes a value that anyone can capture and share. A photo of it forwarded to a group chat lets students who aren’t in the room mark themselves present, and a successful scan only proves a phone read the code — not that the student attended.
Doesn’t a rotating QR code fix the sharing problem?
It narrows the window but doesn’t close it. A code that refreshes every 20–30 seconds is still relayed in a chat faster than it expires. The value is shareable by nature; shortening its life just adds friction for honest students too.
How is tapping a seat different?
The input isn’t a transferable string — it’s a specific seat in a specific room, on a map the professor is watching in real time. One seat can only be claimed once per session, so there’s nothing to forward and duplicates are rejected.
Do we still need something displayed to the class?
Just the session code, so students know which live class to join. There’s no per-class QR to generate, project, rotate or reprint, and no display dependency that can stall check-in.
